How to Decide if an Undergraduate Journalism Program is Right for You TKG
How to Decide if an Undergraduate Journalism Program is Right for You For most students, picking a major is a process. Yes, you write about one in your application, but you have at least a semester or two, and normally until your sophomore year, to really decide what you want to focus on. Even then, it isnât rare for a college student to change majors as they gain a better understanding of themselves and what they want in life. A pre-med student might end up in the English department, and an English student might wind up majoring in computer engineering. After all, most students pick a school based on its overall credentials, not because of one specific major. But if you are thinking about pursuing a pre-professional journalism program, this does not apply to you.Four-year pre-professional journalism programs are not common. They are not like a history major or a math degree. They arenât at every school and most schools donât have them, so if you are thinking about majoring in journalism you need to think about whether it is really what you want to do.Here is a checklist to help you decide if a journalism program may be right for you. If you can answer yes at least one of the five questions on this list, you should consider applying to a school with the specific intention of joining their journalism program. If you canât answer yes to any of the items on this list, donât even think about it. Writing in a personal journal or reading the paper doesnât make you a journalist. You have to be up for putting in the hours. The Checklist Have you worked for your school newspaper for more than one year?Have you taken on leadership roles within school publications including a paper, literary mag, or yearbook?Have you interned with a publication?Have you done any work on-camera or behind-the-scenes for a school, local, or online news program?Do you have a news-centric blog, website, or YouTube channel that has significant viewership? There are some major pros to studying journalism as an undergraduate. You get to do what you love r ight from the beginning, you get to start producing news right away, often in professional-quality digs, and you are able to jump into the workforce immediately after college with a stamp of journalistic approval. However, not majoring in journalism above doesnât mean you canât become a journalist. Thatâs the thing about journalism. You donât need a degree in it to do it and you can always go to graduate school for journalism later. One of the drawbacks of undergraduate journalism programs is that, like any pre-professional program, itâs restrictive. Changing your course of study mid-program may be tough and you wonât have as much room to explore. Some of the best schools for writing in the world donât offer an undergraduate journalism degree, so you may also have to sacrifice the overall caliber of school for the availability of the program. There are exceptions to every rule and undergraduate journalism programs are perfect for some, but we want our students to have op tions. 17 is a young age to be making big career decisions that you canât pivot away from easily without losing time and/or money, so we encourage our students to pick programs and institutions that offer the maximum flexibility, and journalism programs often donât fit the bill.If you do meet at least one of the criteria and you want to learn more, check out our list of top undergraduate journalism programs then send us a note. Role of Private Labels in Organic Food Market
Question: Discuss about the Role of Private Labels in Organic Food Market. Answer: Introduction According to Albert et al., (2011), the consumption of antibiotics has increased from 8.44 defined daily doses per 1,000 inhabitants per day (DID) in 2008 to 9.95 in 2010. With this rate of increase, the usage is seen to hit higher in the coming years. The antibiotics resistance is one of the major problems, which is able to emerge from this increased consumption (Scientific report on the effects, 2009). Some of the key factors, which lead to this trend, include the increased human development index, increase in urban area population, life expectancy, private health establishment, low literacy level and even the low percentage of population between the age of 5 and 15 years. The demand and supply of the antibiotics is seen the major economic theories which are able to control use of antibiotics. Like any business, the market will usually supply what the consumers need. On the other hand, as the antibiotics are in the market, the doctors will still recommend for their consumption. This will tend to increase the use of the antibiotics and therefore causing more resistance to the drugs. Moreover, the main theory lies on the increase of population (Albert et al., 2011). The population is able to form the basis of the market which the antibiotics products will depend on. Since the market is available, the consumption of the antibiotics will keep on increasing. As the time goes, the consumption will tend to increase with more margins since the resistance chances are high at any moment. Moreover, the private sector is in the market to produce what the market can consume at a high quantity. Therefore the private sector will manufacture more of the drugs accordin g to the demand from the population (Scientific report on the effects, 2009). This at the end will tend to increase the chances of resistance and therefore increasing the resistance. The psychological aspect theory will have on the product. From the analysis, the producers will learn about the psychological nature of the people and the use of the antibiotics. This will promote them to produce more of the drugs for consumption. The psychological nature is usually found where sick people are easily convinced to buy any time of drugs with the promise that that will get better. Even with the increased resistance of the antibiotics the demand will be seen to keep on increasing causing the increase of their use. Therefore, the behavior of the humans will tend to be naive even with knowledge of the increased resistance. Economic model The government with the effort to reduce the consumption of the antibiotics can engage on different economic models. These models are able to explain the different levels of consumption of particular commodities which may go against the rules. In addition, the government can also apply counter models to ensure that they are able to meet the different demands of the market. Like in this case, the government needs to apply some models, which will counter the increased consumption of the antibiotic and ensure that the adverse effects will not affect the consumers. First, the playing with the prices can help to enhance the reduction on the consumption. Through taxation, the government can engage on high taxes, which will tend to increase the cost of the antibiotic under consideration (Assessing the health status, 2016.) According to the microeconomic rules, the high prices will tend to reduce the demand of the commodity. Considering the following data of the prices of the antibiotics in the market and the number of consumers who are able to purchase at certain cost, it is clear that as the prices increases, the demand goes down. demand price 20 200 15 300 10 500 5 1000 1 2000 The high taxation will tend to make it unreasonable for the consumers to use this product. The increased prices will help the market changes (Candelo, Casalegno Civera, 2017). In addition, the increased prices coupled with the less consumption of the antibiotic will change the market trend from the retailers and wholesalers. Since the antibiotics will spend more time on shelves, the retailers and wholesaler will change the sale of the product since it will not be moving anymore. Even with the increased of the market base, it will be noticed that the consumption of the antibiotics is low due to the high prices which are imposed. In addition, this trend will be able to move in that change up to the manufacturer. The manufacturer will be unable to produce the antibiotics since the trend of consumption will have changed (Shegog, 2010). The government will be able to couple the demand and supply and use the price factors to control the consumption. This will help decreasing the consumpti on according to the laws of demand and supply. Critical analysis The bacterial resistance in many cases is able to increase when the high consumption of particular antibiotics is enhanced in the market. Nevertheless, the control of the consumption is usually in the hands of the government. The consumption of the antibiotics is usually able to rely on the effects, which the consumers are able to face (Assessing the health status, 2016). The government can also engage on other laws that will help to reduce the consumption of this particular antibiotic. It can engage on looking on other antibiotics in the market and help creating measures which will be able to reduce their prices and therefore increasing their consumption. The use of government avenues to reduce the cost of products such as waving the taxation, which is enhanced on them, can help to promote the reduction of consumption of the antibiotics under consideration. The government van therefore identify the key substitutes of the antibiotics and enhance their low proves (Llorens Carceln, 20 16). This trend will ensure that the market will prefer their consumption and making this antibiotic be seen as a costly in nature. Although the government will not have interfered with its price, the market will tend to shift the demand to the substitutes and therefore enhance the control of its consumption. From this point, the government will enhance its control of the consumption of the commodity. Through the increase of the demand of the substitutes, the control of the use of this antibiotic will be achieved in both short term and long term. This can work for the government especially in the free market. The control of the advertising of the antibiotics can also help to resolve the increased consumption (Abstracts for the 3rd International, 2007). The legislation can be placed which will be able to reduce the passing of the knowledge about the antibiotic existence to the market base. This will give an upper hand to other commodities on the site to enhance their consumption. The consumption of commodities is able to depend on different factors. The demand creation relates on the type of commodity and the way the market will react to it. The market may demand the use of a commodity while on the other hand the government is trying to control its consumption. Nevertheless, the economic models are in critical position to define these moments and the reasons, which may lead to market defying such regulations. Nevertheless, the government may engage on different avenues to enhance what they need and they have the rule to change market waves with these regulations (Shegog, 2010). The demand and supply rules are the area, which the government can play with in order to achieve its aim. This is where the government can use the psychology of the market and change its use with different regulations. The socioeconomic factors are able to play a key role in the consumption of these antibiotics. Conclusion In conclusion, the market is a complex environment and the changes of rules do not guarantee the consumption rates of different commodities. Nevertheless, changes in demand and supply can enhance the changes in the consumption, which the government can effectively apply. Each moment, the economic models can define one factor while the government tries to change the views. Through this, the government will turn to different avenues such as using the legislative arm and the prices to change market demands. The government is able to play with the cost, demand and supply mechanisms to enhance the different rules and regulations to reduce the consumption. Convenience is the Root of Technology. essays
Convenience is the Root of Technology. essays In the course of our day we encounter hundreds of technology upgrades from a basic light switch to a centralized computer network running underneath our feet. In each advancement towards a globalized society we encounter our share of drawbacks, glitches if you will, that make our step into the future seem to be more trouble than its worth. Take for example the telephone. It began in our homes and offices with a cordless that offered us the ability to carry on with tasks at hand without the hassle of a phone cord tripping us up as well as the freedom to have our hands free in order to both converse and work at the same time. Where as years prior, one had to remain in the very location of where the phone jack was located. From the cordless telephone we flew into the age of wireless communication, which brought about the invention of cellular phones. Cellular phones have both their conveniences and inconveniences. In places such as airplanes where signals are being sent and receiv ed, cell phones are restricted due to the interference that they have proven to cause. Not only is the interference a problem but so is the ability to be within range of a signal that will reach your phone, making it impossible for you to even use them at times. As with most things there are certain risk factors involved in the simplification of our lives, so to speak. In a recent article entitled Cell Phones- A Boon To Modern Society Or A Threat To Human Health?, the issue of health risks involving mobile phones in direct relation to the flow of calcium ions out of cells when exposed to certain signal and carrier frequencies, such as those found in mobile phones was discussed. Calcium ion/influx is a mechanism for brain change that affects behavior and reaction times in people. Calcium ions in cells play a role in the growth and development of cells in DNA synthesis and in the life and death of cells. Therefore, calc...

Organisational Learning and Development Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Organisational Learning and Development - Essay Example These new practices rely upon the idea that performance depends not only on hard and attenuating work of the personnel, but also on such essential characteristics as competence and ability to learn and develop. Despite seeming simplicity, the problem of effective learning and development of employees is exceptionally complex, and if a company fails to properly, effectively and continuously train and educate its human resources in the right areas of the business, at the right time and at the right cost, serious inefficiencies are likely to arise. This will inevitably result in considerable operational difficulties and sometimes may even lead to failure of the organisation (Buckle & Caple, 2004). Information, knowledge, and skills have already become the key aspects of new economic environment (Guest, 1987). As a result, modern organizational studies place increasingly distinct emphasis on issues associated with learning and development of personnel. An effective HRD programme should be built around three basic theoretical concepts: organizational development change, leadership development, and individual, group and organizational learning (Reid, Barrington & Brown, 2004). ... In the past, learning focused primarily on individuals: people worked in large bureaucracies or assembly lines and, consequently, the goal of learning under such circumstances was training of the skills required for their functioning. However, since approximately three decades ago the focus of learning in organisations started to shift from individuals to groups and, what was even more important, the meaning underlying the concepts of 'learning', 'training' and 'development' transformed dramatically. Scholars began to perceive these constructs as continuous rather than occasional while the purpose and the process of learning were also reformulated and recognised as vital for effective organizational performance (Harrison, 2005). The existing research in organizational learning available up to date demonstrates that there are at least three major things adult learners need to know: - What will be learned; - How the learning will be conducted; - Why the new knowledge will be of any value (Knowles, 1984). The need to know about these three aspects strongly affects employees' motivation to learn, outcomes of learning, and motivation to use new knowledge. Normally, five phases of organizational learning are identified in the literature: 1. Analysis The first phase involves full analysis of the organizational needs, identification of the goals which, when reached, will equip employees with knowledge and skills to meet the organization's needs (Buckley & Caple, 2004). The first questions to be asked in the analysis phase are "Is there a need for training" and "If something is wrong, is it caused by a performance problem that training will fix" In the analysis phase the responsibilities/duties required at a certain position are identified and

Defining Public Relations Paper Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Defining Public Relations Paper - Essay Example i. It is a managerial function that focuses on researching, communicating, interacting and establishing close relations with varied stakeholders of an organization in an ethical manner (Corbett). Mainly, this entails establishing an ample environment where all the stakeholders will benefit mutually through relations that they have constituted and achieve specific results. 2. It is a management function whose mandate encompasses evaluating public attitudes, identifying policies and methods either by an individual or corporation intended to safeguard publicââ¬â¢s interest. This is to implement an already predetermined action aimed at earning both understanding and acceptance (Narasimha 4). 3. It is both an art and science that focuses on analyzing trends, forecasting their results and advising corporation managers before implementing predetermined programs of action that will safeguard both interests of the public and the corporation (Newsom & Haynes 4). Therefore, this implies the term despite having varied definitions, their implications are the same except the wording from one personââ¬â¢s perspective to another. However, there are some definitions that attach extra essence to publicââ¬â¢s interests and the relationships in an organization that would lead to a good reputation evident in definitions 2 and 3. This is contrary to the definition 1 whose emphasis encompasses communication and understanding in an organization besides ensuring healthy relationship with the public. I think one of the reasons that have contributed to the emergency of numerous definitions of ââ¬Å"Public relationsâ⬠is due to the perception, which the mass media has created in the peopleââ¬â¢s minds Joosuk & Candace 319). This is especially in the mode of reporting whereby for the past decades, media has utilized the term in relation to negative connotations especially when expounding varied interactions between the society and the corporation

Marriage and Family Therapy Essay Example for Free
Marriage and Family Therapy Essay This paper will also evaluate five major themes relevant to Marriage and Family Therapy which include: ethical dilemmas in marriage and family counseling, premarital counseling qualifications of marriage and family therapists including licensure and certification. The biblical insight related to marriage and family therapy will also be explored as well as my personal reflections about this topic. History and Development of Marriage Counseling Marriage counseling was established in the early 1930s. Counselors recognized the advantages and effectiveness of treating married couples in joined sessions. This growing appreciation for patterns of relationships in families led to numerous studies on marital conflict and dynamics and the effects on childrens development. In 1932, there were three marital clinics said to open. They worked with individuals and their difficulties adhering to traditional gender role expectations. Developed and founded in the late 1970ââ¬â¢s was the Marriage and Family Therapyââ¬â¢s code of ethics which is called The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). The organizations philosophy was that marriage and family therapy were two separate areas, each with their own histories, concepts and differing practices. (AAMFT, 2012) Introduction of Marriage and Family Counseling Counseling is to help persons understand and clarify their views of their life space, and to learn to reach their self-determined goals through meaningful, well-informed choices and through resolution or problems of an emotional or interpersonal nature. (Burks and Steffire, 1979 . Focusing on a broader field in counseling, What is Marriage and Family Counseling? Marriage and family counselors work with couples and families on a wide range of clinical problems including, but not limited to, depression, marital strife, communication, and anxiety and child-parent problems. Marriage and family counseling is not just for unhappy or struggling couples, coupleââ¬â¢s therapy can be used proactively to strengthen bonds and to gain a better understanding of one other. In addition, before a marriage begins pre-marital counseling can help couples achieve a deeper understanding of each other and iron out differences before their wedding day. They also help families learn to solve their problems by managing their relationships effectively. Family therapists often work with individuals, the couple and parents and children to get a better perspective of patterns that affect the entire system to develop strategies for modification. (Corey, Corey ;amp; Callanan p. 450 2011). Family Counseling is important to the counseling field this therapy can help people within the family to resolve their disputes and quarrels through effective communication. Proper communication with the help of a therapist or a counselor can help family members discuss their problems and issues with each other. The importance of the family in our development as whole and healthy individuals is recognized as a basic truth by. In most cases, however, a disturbed and distressed client will have some difficult, challenging relationships within his/her family and these will need to be explored and addressed if the client is to discover and create relief and resolution of their problem. Biblical Insights related to Marriage and Family Therapy In the book, Competent Christian Counseling it states that ââ¬Å"To understand the individual, the one must see the individual in the context of his or her system of relationshipsâ⬠This implies that the quality of a individual is much more than one person, the person is a part of a social system that begins with family. (Clinton ;amp; Ohlsclager p. 518 2002). From a biblical aspect Family is described as a social system that progressed by forming a set of rules, roles, power structure. Forms of communication and way to solve problems. There are four key principles that a Christian counselors point out when approaching any family. The first one is ââ¬Å"The family, in is social dimensions, reflects Godâ⬠. Meaning that The Father, Son and Holy Spirit all have unique distinctiveness however they are ââ¬Å"oneâ⬠as God; this is compared to the Family. A family can consist of a mother, father and children or a mother and husband. If thought they are their own persons, they are considered ââ¬Å"oneâ⬠. The second key principle that is describe is ââ¬Å"Family health, individual health, and maturity are inseparably entwinedâ⬠. This key principle entails that the powers of family identity and socialization is significant for growth and development among each family member, which can ultimately lead to healthy family living. ââ¬Å"The Family is also like the church is that next basic principle, meaning that a family has functions like the church. Finally, the last key principle describes states that ââ¬Å"Trouble is reproduced, but can also be stopped, in families and in generations of familiesâ⬠. This key principle indicates that there is a psychosocial and spiritual relation among family reproduction pertaining to alcoholism and other issues as describes in Competent Christian Counseling as ââ¬Å"generational cursesâ⬠. Christians believe that these issues within families from generation to generation can be transformed through Christ. A example is that of Abraham found in Genesis 20. Abrahams family was said to show favoritism to certain children, which continued for three generations. When it comes to marriage counseling, Christian counselors believe marriage counseling helps couples to understand Godââ¬â¢s pattern for husband-wife relationships, diagnoses unbiblical patterns and their root causes, and prescribes Godââ¬â¢s solutions for soul change that leads to relational growth. Biblical marriage counseling should result in enhanced relationship: closeness with Christ, intimacy with your spouse, and a sense of greater peace. Biblical insights involving to family counseling, the focus is solutions, not simply external solutions. Your counselor will help you to understand Godââ¬â¢s design for healthy family living, will assist you to assess unhealthy and unbiblical ways of relating as parents and children, and will equip you to reconcile and grow in your family relationships. Counselor Identity, Functions and Ethics of Marriage and Family Counseling The practice of Marriage and Family counseling rest on the foundation of systems theory, which views psychological problems as arising from within the personââ¬â¢s present environment and intergenerational family system. Corey, Corey, Callanan p. 449 2011). The systems theory is very similar to the views on Christian Counselors as stated earlier; ââ¬Å"Trouble is reproduced, but can also be stopped, in families and in generations of familiesâ⬠. Marriage and Family therapists follow a specific code of ethics know as The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). Founded in 1942 as the American Association of Marriage Counselors, the A AMFT has been involved with the problems, needs and changing patterns of couples and family relationships. The association focuses on increasing understanding, research and education in the field of marriage and family therapy, and ensuring the quality training of marriage and family therapists. AAMFT members meet standards for education and training and are held to the ethical standards of the profession. (AAMFT, 2011) AAMFT ethics are broken down in eight core areas. The first area is the responsibility to Clients. Marriage and family therapist have a responsibility to the welfare of both the family and individuals in the family. Therapists are to make reasonable efforts to guarantee their services are used properly and accordingly. Confidentiality is the next core area, which applies to all code of ethics pertaining to the counseling field. Confidentially in Marriage and Family is distinctive because the therapist is dealing with a group of people. However, the AAMFT insist on therapists to respect the confidentiality of each individual client. Although, confidentiality is essential, there are some exceptions. Those exceptions include, mandates by the law pertaining to cases of child and elderly abuse, incest, or abuse to persons with disabilities. A therapist has an exemption from confidentially when it is necessary to protect clients from hurting themselves and others (AAMFT, 2011). When working with a family, all family members must agree concerning the release of any information. Some therapists, in fact, arrange for sessions with individual family members to actively encourage the sharing of secrets to better understand what is occurring in the family. The therapist then may work with the individual client in the hope of enabling that person to disclose the same information in the family session. Marriage and family therapists are to maintain high standards if professional competence and integrity. Therapists must remain current on any developments and advances relevant to their field of practice. They can do this by continuing education, training, workshops and interacting with other professionals in the marriage and family therapy field. (Corey, Corey ;amp; Callanan p. 452 2011). Therapists also have a responsibility to students and supervisees. They are not to manipulate the trust and dependency of the students and supervisees in which there are working with. Responsibility to the profession is the next core is in the AAMFT code of ethics. This includes reporting people practicing without a license and contributing to community service for advancement of the society. The next core area is financial arrangements. Marriage and family therapists are not to misuse clients financially for services. Issues and Ethics in the Helping Professions states that clients are to be ââ¬Å"truthful in representing facts to clients and to third parties regarding any services renderedâ⬠. The last core area in the ethical standards of Marriage and family therapy is advertising. Therapists are able to truthfully represent their competence, education, training and experience in marriage and family therapy. Nevertheless, they should not advertise themselves as specialists with show evidence and supporting this assertion. The therapists primary responsibilities are to protect the rights and to promote the welfare of his or her clients. The dilemma with multiple clients is that in some situations an intervention that serves one persons best interests may be conflicting to another. Indeed, the very reason that families tend to seek therapy is because they have conflicting goals and interests. The family therapist must insure that improvement in the status of one family member does not Occur at the expense of another family member. Other therapists implement the policy of not keeping secrets from other family members. They clearly discourage the sharing of any information that might lead to a special alliance with one individual and that excludes the remaining uninformed family members. The impact of the therapists values, unavoidable in any counseling process, can play a particularly role in marriage and family therapies. Issues discussed in family therapy elicit very important personal, familial, and societal values regarding preservation of the family system, extramarital relationships, and sex roles. Dealing with these values is not easy, particularly when the therapist confronts a conflict in values among different family members and is inclined to reinforce the beliefs and attitudes of one family member over another (Hines amp; Hare p. 65 1978). Premarital Counseling Couples now face more demands and have fewer supports than ever before. The typical complex marriage includes managing two careers while rearing children really requires that couples have very strong, well-established abilities to communicate, resolve issues, maintain support and set goals. Without this foundation, its easy to feel overwhelmed by stress and time pressures. Problems can intrude mu ch more easily than most couples realize. Therefore, premarital counseling is recommended for couples looking to eventually get married. Research shows that premarital counseling reduces the risk of divorce by up to 30% . Premarital counseling is a type of therapy that helps couples prepare for marriage. Premarital counseling can help ensure that you and your partner have a strong, healthy relationship, giving you a better chance for a stable and satisfying marriage. Premarital counseling can also help you identify weaknesses that could become bigger problems during marriage. There are a variety of formats of counseling through local psychology and counseling centers, including individual counseling, small group counseling and interactive seminars where couples participate with a large number of other couples. (Wright p. 65 1992) Characteristics and Qualifications of Marriage and Family Therapists To be qualified as a marriage and family therapist requires not just that you get the right degree, pass the right tests and meet the licensing requirements, but that you possess qualities that prove you to be both sensitive and firm. Corey, Corey and Callanan in Issues and Ethics in the Helping Professions identifies personal characteristics for effective marriage and family therapists as being assertive, confident, accepting, appreciating the influence of diversity to just name a few. Self knowledge is predominantly vital for marriage and family therapists because when working with a family, their reactions and perceptions are influenced by their own regard to family of origin issues. Marriage and Family Therapists must be sensitive to dealing with peoples most personal and graphic secrets, shame, guilt and rage. A Marriage and Family therapist should be embarrassed to hear about these things or make distasteful comments about a chosen lifestyle or action, otherwise she risks shutting out the patient. An effective marriage and family therapists must listen to stories that are painful to hear but should remember that those stories are always more painful for the teller than the listener. An important quality in an marriage and family therapists is recognizing the difference between judging and advising. A good marriage and family therapist will help the patient with insights into sensible decisions that lead to greater personal happiness and responsibility but will not tell the patient what choice to make or ask the patient to adhere to the therapists own likes and dislikes. An marriage and family therapist should distinguish between dysfunctional qualities in a patient and those that are simply non-normative. Marriage and family therapists may hear confessions of illegal activity or hear from the victims of crimes, and legal codes dictate what they have to report. A therapists job is not just to listen but to encourage the patient to take action in his life to get the patient to see their actions in a clear light and make good decisions in turn. Marriage and family therapist can become eligible for state certification, or licensure, upon completion of their internship. First, candidates must register with the Association of Marital and Therapy Regulatory Boards. The Regulatory board will examine the applicants credentials, education and experience to establish competency before the applicant can qualify for testing. State certification costs vary from state to state. Each state has different rules regarding retesting if the candidate does not pass the test on his or her first attempt. Upon completion of the test, scores are validated and mailed to the candidate. A candidate who has passed the state exam is called a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and is free to practice in a private or clinical setting. The educational requirements to become a Marriage and Family Therapist are regulated by each state and thus may vary; however, most will require a masters degree or higher in Marriage and Family Therapy or a related field from an accredited institution. It is essential for students to gain experience in working with a selection of families from different ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. A program that offers a all-inclusive course work and clinical supervision provides the ideal learning situation. Corey, Corey amp; Callanan p. 457 2011) Ethical Dilemmas is Marriage and Family Counseling Couples counselors and family and marriage therapists are likely to encounter many ethical dilemmas throughout their careers. Because of the nature of couples therapy, issues pertaining to informed consent, confidentiality, multiple relationships, and value systems can have a damaging effect of the counselor-client relationship if they arent handled appropriately and discussed by both parties at the beginning of the counseling relationship. Informed consent refers to the process of informing clients about the therapeutic process. Issues such as fees and payment schedules, appointment cancellation policy, theoretical framework that the counselor employs in his practice, approaches and techniques the counselor intends to use with clients and the limits of confidentiality should all be discussed. In addition to discussing verbal consultation, clients also should be given an informed consent package detailing all the information discussed in session. Clients should be asked to sign an informed consent document for both the client and counselors records. In couples counseling, informed consent prevents misunderstandings, disagreements and hostility between the counselor and the client. (AAMFT, 2011) One of the biggest ethical dilemmas in any kind of counseling is confidentiality. This is particularly complicated when it comes to couples counseling in which couples receive both individual and couple counseling. It is important for the counselor to determine early on in the counseling process whether information disclosed in individual counseling sessions will be kept confidential or if both individuals will sign waivers allowing whats discussed in private sessions to be brought up in couples counseling. According to the AAMFT Code of Ethics, counselors must discuss the limits of confidentiality with their clients and make sure clients understand these limits. Article 2. of the AAMFT Code of Ethics states that marriage and family therapists do not disclose client confidences except by written authorization or waiver, or where mandated or permitted by law. Verbal authorization will not be sufficient except in emergency situations, unless prohibited by law. When providing couple, family or group treatment, the therapist does not disclose information outside the treatment context without a written authorization from each individual competent to execute a waiver. In the context of couple, family or group treatment, the therapist may not reveal any individuals confidences to others in the client unit without the prior written permission of that individual. (AAMFT, 2011) In counseling, multiple relationships refer to a situation when the counselor and client are engaged in a sexual or nonsexual relationship outside the counseling relationship. Multiple relationships are often unavoidable, especially in small towns; as a counselor, you may attend the same church as your clients, your children might be on the same soccer team or you may serve on the same board or council. However, multiple relationships should always be avoided when possible. In couples counseling, multiple relationships can further complicate the counseling relationship if the counselor is involved in a multiple relationship with one client but not the other. The client that is not involved in the multiple relationships may feel that the counselor is taking sides or treating her unfairly. (Corey, Corey ;amp; Callanan 2011) At some point in their careers, counselors are likely to encounter couples with a value and belief system that differs significantly from their own. Within the counseling relationship, the counselor has a position of authority; the counselor must not take advantage of this position by trying to impose his values on the client or clients. Counselors must understand that individuals from different backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities and religions than their own may have different value systems. It is not the counselors job to change his clients value system; it is only the counselors job to help clients become comfortable with the decisions they make within their personal value systems. Article 1. of the AAMFT Code of ethics states that marriage and family counselors respect the rights of clients to make decisions and help them to understand the consequences of these decisions. (AAMFT, 2011). Personal Reflections In todays world more and more people are experiencing life struggles when it comes to family. These issues can range from problems in a marriage, how to deal with your children issues and understand yourself and how to deal with your family and certain issues. The area of marriage and family counseling/therapy has had an outbreak over the past decade. The counselors are expected to work effectively with families experiencing a variety of issues and problems. In marriage and family therapy/counseling there are so many different types of techniques that are out there but should be used and looked upon not a cure, but a method to help mobilize the family. Choosing this topic wasnt hard for me because of the love I have my family and evaluating what I believe needs to be repaired and what I believe stands strong for us. I believe in saving marriages and families, I think it is really important. Having strong family and a stable marriage plays such a major part in kids lives today, they need a solid foundation in order to have a healthy life. Watching so many young couples get divorce after less than two years of marriage and seeing how the kids suffer really from the break up of the family. I believe that if younger therapist/counselors were out there and start getting involved in the community, church and conducting seminars relating to marriage and families this could be the beginning of change. This is why I chose this topic to research.

Bad Medicine :: Essays Papers
Bad Medicine Before the age of television shows, movies, and the Internet people entertained one another with vibrant and exaggerated tales. Geoffrey Chaucerââ¬â¢s, The Canterbury Tales, is a good example of this form of entertainment. The novel details the journey of a band of pilgrims, who engaged in a storytelling competition, as they travel toward the shrine of Thomas à Becket. These Middle Age storytellers varied as much as the stories, and consisted of a knight, physician, monk, and many more. In ââ¬Å"the Prologueâ⬠the Physician is revealed as a con artist who cares more about himself than his patients. The Physician was a medical doctor, who was responsible for taking care of the ill and disease stricken. ââ¬Å"No one alive could talk as well as he did / On points of medicine and surgeryâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (Chaucer 30). He was part of the rising middle class society and his garments that were ââ¬Å"lined with taffetaâ⬠(Chaucer 31) made this assumption apparent. During the Middle Ages taffeta was a material like silk, which was very expensive, so only the wealthy could afford it. To many he seemed to be a productive member of society, but appearances can be deceiving. People of the medical profession were looked upon with a certain respect; so many patients did not question what was prescribed. The Physician misused his title to take advantage of his patientsââ¬â¢ faith. He was revealed as a liar and a cheat. He was a partner with the druggist, to help each other build their wealth. The reader can draw the appearance of his deceit in the following quote, ââ¬Å"He gave the man his medicine then and there. / All his apothecaries in a tribe / Were ready with the drugs he would prescribe / And each made money from the otherââ¬â¢s guile; / They had been friendly for a goodish whileâ⬠(Chaucer 30). Chaucer describes these habits of the physician in order to allow the reader to paint a mental picture of his morals and character. Chaucer also brings the readers attention to the fact that the Physician ââ¬Å"did not read the Bible very muchâ⬠(31). Chaucer implies that the Physician is a sinner, who did not see an error in his dishonesty. Many analysts believe that Chaucer was trying to portray certain qualities through the vivid descriptions of the charactersââ¬â¢, such as in the following quote describing the physician; ââ¬Å"In blood-red garments, slashed with bluish grey / And lined with taffeta â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (Chaucer 31).

Hantavirus: National Park Service and Popular Camping Site
Hantavirus It seems that the there has been an outbreak of a rare, deadly virus called the Hantavirus in Yosemite National Park. According to the article, there has been an outbreak of hantavirus infections in Curry Village, a popular camping site in Yosemite, and that two people have already died from it. However, this isnââ¬â¢t the first time the hantavirus has spread. In 1993, the virus had been first discovered when a terrifying outbreak unfolded in the Four Corners Area of Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah. The fatality rate was incredibly highââ¬âkilling about half the people it infected. But, what exactly is the Hantavirus? The Hantavirus causes a disease called hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, which can kill an infected within just 10 days. Researchers have learned that the hantavirus is spread by the wastes and saliva of deer mice, whose population in Yosemite is bigger than usual this year.Over the 20 years since the virus has been discovered, experts have been ab le to learn more about the disease thus making them better at saving lives, but not that much better. Currently, there is no official cure. With that being said, I believe that this article was published to alert people about the hantavirus. Itââ¬â¢s obvious that the hantavirus is extremely fatal and sneaky, for its symptoms are similar to those of harmless illnesses. People need to be notified to be cautious of their health. It might be in Yosemite for now, but modern technology gives us humans the ability to travel great distances. Although there has been a recent outbreak, I do not think the hantavirus is or will ever be an epidemic. This is because I think that us humans are more than capable to stop the spread of this virus. I remember reading about the SARS outbreak that originated in China a couple of years ago. The CDC and the World Health Organization were immediately put into action as soon as it was found to have hit North America.Flights were grounded, travel within bo rders was locked, and only around 40 people died in the entire continent. Also, I believe that this is the way we can fix this problem, almost like how they fixed the SARS outbreak. We should restrict travel to and from Yosemite so that the spread radius is minimized. Then, we should thoroughly study the virus and develop a cure. Unlike SARS, the cause of hantavirus infections is no longer a mystery. I believe that experts can cure the virus in just a few weeks if this is process is followed.

B-52 Stratofortress - Strategic Air Command
On November 23, 1945, only weeks after the end of World War II, the US Air Material Command issued performance specifications for a new long-range, nuclear bomber. Calling for a cruising speed of 300 mph and a combat radius of 5,000 miles, AMC invited bids the following February from Martin, Boeing, and Consolidated. Developing the Model 462, a straight-wing bomber powered by six turboprops, Boeing was able to win the competition despite the fact that the aircrafts range fell short of the specifications. Moving forward, Boeing was issued a contract on June 28, 1946, to build a mock-up of the new XB-52 bomber. Over the next year, Boeing was forced to change the design several times as the US Air Force first showed concern over the XB-52s size and then increased the required cruising speed. By June 1947, the USAF realized that when complete the new aircraft would nearly be obsolete. While the project was put on hold, Boeing continued to refine their latest design. That September, the Heavy Bombardment Committee issued new performance requirements demanding 500 mph and an 8,000-mile range, both of which were far beyond Boeings latest design. Lobbying hard, the president of Boeing, William McPherson Allen, was able to prevent their contract from being terminated. Coming to an accord with the USAF, Boeing was instructed to begin exploring recent technological advances with an eye to incorporating them into the XB-52 program. Moving forward, Boeing presented a new design in April 1948, but was told the next month that the new aircraft should incorporate jet engines. After swapping out turboprops for jets on their Model 464-40, Boeing was ordered to design a completely new aircraft utilizing the Pratt Whitney J57 turbojet on October 21, 1948. A week later, Boeing engineers first tested the design that would become the basis for the final aircraft. Possessing 35-degree swept wings, the new XB-52 design was powered by eight engines placed in four pods under the wings. During testing, concerns arose regarding the fuel consumption of the engines, however the commander of the Strategic Air Command, General Curtis LeMay insisted the program move forward. Two prototypes were built and the first flew on April 15, 1952, with famed test pilot Alvin Tex Johnston at the controls. Pleased with the result, the USAF placed an order for 282 aircraft. B-52 Stratofortress - Operational History Entering operational service in 1955, the B-52B Stratofortress replaced the Convair B-36 Peacemaker. During its initial years of service, several minor issues arose with the aircraft and the J57 engines experienced reliability problems. A year later, the B-52 dropped its first hydrogen bomb during testing at Bikini Atoll. On January 16ââ¬â18, 1957, the USAF demonstrated the bombers reach by having three B-52s fly non-stop around the world. As additional aircraft were built, numerous changes and modifications were made. In 1963, the Strategic Air Command fielded a force of 650 B-52s. With the US entry into the Vietnam War, the B-52 saw its first combat missions as part of Operations Rolling Thunder (March 1965) and Arc Light (June 1965). Later that year, several B-52Ds underwent Big Belly modifications to facilitate the aircrafts use in carpet bombing. Flying from bases in Guam, Okinawa, and Thailand, B-52s were able to unleash devastating firepower on their targets. It was not until November 22, 1972, that the first B-52 was lost to enemy fire when an aircraft was downed by a surface-to-air missile. The B-52s most notable role in Vietnam was during Operation Linebacker II in December 1972, when waves of bombers struck targets across North Vietnam. During the war, 18 B-52s were lost to enemy fire and 13 to operational causes. While many B-52s saw action over Vietnam, the aircraft continued to fulfill its nuclear deterrence role. B-52s routinely flew airborne alert missions to provide a rapid first strike or retaliation capability in case of war with the Soviet Union. These missions ended in 1966, following the collision of a B-52 and a KC-135 over Spain. During the 1973 Yom Kippur War between Israel, Egypt, and Syria, B-52 squadrons were placed on a war footing in an effort to prevent the Soviet Union from becoming involved in the conflict. By the early 1970s, many of the early variants of the B-52 began to be retired. With the B-52 aging, the USAF sought to replace the aircraft with the B-1B Lancer, however strategic concerns and cost issues prevented this from occurring. As a result, B-52Gs and B-52Hs remained a part of the Strategic Air Commands nuclear standby force until 1991. With the collapse of the Soviet Union, the B-52G was removed from service and the aircraft destroyed as part of the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty. With the launch of the coalition air campaign during the 1991 Gulf War, the B-52H returned to combat service. Flying from bases in the United States, Britain, Spain, and Diego Garcia, B-52s conducted both close air support and strategic bombing missions, as well as served as a launch platform for cruise missiles. Carpet bombing strikes by B-52s proved particularly effective and the aircraft was responsible for 40% of the munitions dropped on Iraqi forces during the war. In 2001, the B-52 again returned to the Middle East in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Due to the aircrafts long loiter time, it proved highly effective in providing needed close air support to the troops on the ground. It has fulfilled a similar role over Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. As of April 2008, the USAFs B-52 fleet consisted of 94 B-52Hs which operate from Minot (North Dakota) and Barksdale (Louisiana) Air Force Bases. An economical aircraft, the USAF intends to retain the B-52 through 2040 and has investigated several options for updating and enhancing the bomber, including replacing its eight engines with four Rolls-Royce RB211 534E-4 engines. Taking a Look at HIV - 651 Words
Physiological Basis To be a retrovirus is not the same as a virus. HIV is a retrovirus and it is classified as this because HIVââ¬â¢s genetic information is being enclosed by RNA instead of DNA. HIV targets a specific cell within the immune system and those are the T cells or also known as CD4+ cells. HIV causes immune dysfunction by destroying these cells. HIV contains a glycoprotein, called gp120 that is vital for the virus to enter the T cell. It attaches to the surface, called the CD4+. As it attaches, the retrovirusââ¬â¢ membrane fuses to the lymphocyte cell membrane, therefore gaining entry into the cell. Once an entry is initiated and completed, HIV has the ability to replicate into thousands of copies of itself by using the host cells resources and the RNA. The RNA, which is two stranded, converts into DNA through an enzyme titled reverse transcriptase. When the DNA is set within the hostââ¬â¢s genome, it allows replication to occur. Furthermore, the new viral copies are made and the host cell ruptures and dies. As a result, the multiple viruses are released and continue to infect more of the T cells, weakening the immune system. The normal count of T cells is about 800-1200 cells/mm3. For a while, T cells can be initially replaced, but HIV infection is a slowly progressive disease and soon enough the body becomes exhausted, leading to a decline in T-cell count. There are several prevention measures that can be taken in order to avoid getting HIV. Those includeShow MoreRelatedHiv / Aids : Hiv And Aids1532 Words à |à 7 PagesHIV/AIDS What is Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS)? Research on Cloud Computing-Free-Samples-Myassignmenthelp.com
Question: Write a Reflective Journal on Business Research. Answer: Introduction In order to review the progress of my learning process I had to evaluate the research I conducted for receiving the intended results. My research was the advantages and disadvantages of cloud computing. The contemporary functions and issues of cloud computing have been explored through raising the questions related to the both the advantages and disadvantages of cloud computing. I as a researcher chose the definite set of questions for dual reasons. Firstly I wanted to analyze the progress and changes in the field of cloud computing and secondly exploring the organizations that are investing in the cloud computing. I had prepared certain research questions where the organizations acceptance of the new system has also been given importance. Discussion While preparing the research outline my principle objectives that I considered were required factors for this innovative technology, identification of the benefits of such computing and issues that the organizations may experience during the execution. The research also explored how much resistance can the system develop and in what areas and should the companies consider those before implementation. However after the initial analysis the main objective that I focused most on is that the reasons for which cloud computing is getting so popular and accepted among the organizations. I did a long literature review in order to analyze the available literature dealing with the use and result of cloud computing in the organizational operations. I found that many researchers and experts have developed various literature that clearly highlights many practical examples and the scope of the system. Also during the hypothesis based research analysis I found that for a broader scope of research the data sampling should include large enough and should include diverse range of organizational operations. In the literature reviewing process I discovered that cloud computing is capable of assisting in installing and using a third party server for the organizational progress and communication. I also realized a primary reason for the popularity of cloud computing are its capability of storing, sharing, networking and other several computing facilities. From any place the digital data can be stored through the cloud computing. The research on various organizational use of cloud computing reveals that cloud computing I used by Google as a software hosting platform. Other significant examples I found through the investigation are Microsofts online office cloud and Apple I. Another advantage is that the consumers can access it through the demand based self service. The brad access of the system offers this opportunity to all organizations irrespective of their size or client interface. Cloud computing offers more facilities that attracting the consumers to acquire more of this service. The promotion and awareness of this system is not yet so wide so it is not possible for me to say if this model is going to expand greatly in coming few years. The advantages have drawn attention of the organizations successfully as they are investing lot of money for the expansion and innovation of the service. I also found that the cloud computing service is compatible and flexible that the organizations can carry forward in their journey towards sustainable business performance. The smaller computing devices like mobiles or tablets are capable of using the cloud computing services more effectively. The resources that have been pooled through cloud computing can be accessed by multiple clients without any problem. I have found that many researchers have highlighted the security risk as a major disadvantage of the cloud computing system. Other disadvantage is that the users must have access to constant high speed internet, which is not easy for many organizations. However I have found that only few texts have explored the disadvantages successfully so a lot more research and investigation are needed for exploring the disadvantages. I have applied certain research design like descriptive research and qualitative methods to complete the research. The explanatory research helped to establish a relationship among the variables through the description of the research findings. The qualitative analysis helped me to highlight cloud computings underlying issues. The necessary data for the sampling have been collected from one hundred respondents as I conducted direct interviews and applied my observations. For the primary sources of data I followed the aforementioned process and for the secondary data I utilized various sources like newspaper articles, journals, books on information technologies. The acquired knowledge helped me through the analytical part of the research. The collected data had to be utilized well therefore a well structure research design was necessary for me to develop. The secondary sources of data majorly depends on the extensive literature review on my chosen subject matter that is cloud computin g. The various theories on cloud computing guided me to the intended research direction. As the chosen subject deals with broad scope of hypothesis the research proposal faced few limitations too. Various organizations possess various location, size or operations, so while considering all of these building an effective relationship among variables was difficult. The another problem I faced during the research was the issues related to intellectual property rights, as I was unsure which data I am allowed to use. I started the research by mid of September and plan to finish the complete research by the end of January. Conclusion It was not surprising for me to find the rapidly increasing popularity of cloud computing in various organizations. However at the same time I highly doubt that cloud computing can gain success in such businesses that deal with less information. The exhaustive research on the advantages and disadvantages might open up new possibilities for me and the future researchers as well. As I mentioned the disadvantages of cloud computing is yet to be explored which I will try to focus on throughout the research as much as possible. If I will be able to cover up the literature and research gaps effectively the businesses can borrow the findings for developing business decisions related to the adoption of cloud computing. Would you expect a stronger anti-union response from an employer in a manufacturing environment or a service environment Why free essay sample
I would expect a heavier anti-union response from the manufacturing industry for a wide variety of reasons. Firstly, because due to the fact there is more market power in manufacturing giving unions more leverage to exact demands from employers. Secondly, jobs in service industries are generally of a shorter duration, so workers leave their jobs frequently so unionization is not a high priority. The cost of labor is also higher in service jobs, so unions have less power. So simply put, there will be a much more anti-union response in the manufacturing industry simply because manufacturing unions have much more power and leverage compared to workers in service industries. Select an organization with which you are familiar, and discuss the possible bargaining units that would be appropriate for collective bargaining in its structure. Just because it just literally happened, I chose MLB (Major League Baseball). Baseball players and owners signed an agreement for a new labor contract Tuesday, a deal that makes baseball the first North American professional major league to start blood testing on human growth hormone and expands the playoffs to 10 teams. Other highlights include: Players will be required to play in the All-Star Game unless injured or excused, Instant replay will be expanded to include decisions on foul lines and traps, subject to an agreement with umpires, Players, managers and coaches may not use smokeless tobacco products during televised interviews and may not carry them in their uniforms, Players arrested for DWI will be required to undergo mandatory evaluation, and Players will start wearing improved batting helmets manufactured by Rawlings by 2013. Review the arguments for and against the Employee Free Choice Act and the Mandatory Secret Ballot Protection Act. How would you vote? Give your reasons. The Employee Free Choice Act is a piece of legislation that would change federal law in order to, according to the bills authors; strengthen the rights of workers to unionize. It attempts to do so by changing the procedure by which workers unionize. Currently, union campaigns must secure support from 30% of workers in a company through card-ballots, which subsequently sends the campaign into a secret ballot election. If a majority of workers then vote by secret ballot to unionize, a union may be certified by the National Labor Relations Board and established . The Employee Free Choice Act intends to change the law so that a union can be created by a majority vote from the card-ballot process alone, avoiding the second process of a secret ballot election. It also establishes stronger penalties for violation of employee rights when workers seek to form a union and during first-contract negotiations and provides for mediation and arbitration for first-contract disputes.

Shindlers list - use of production features essays
Shindlers list - use of production features essays The film Schindlers List was directed by Steven Spielberg, who unquestionably was an amazing film director. In the film he used many production features that helped show us contrast, emotion, and the list goes on. Some of the production features he used in the film were that of black and white, colour in a couple scenes, subtitles, camera angles and music. Throughout the majority of the film Spielberg has produced film in black and white. I feel the reason he has done this is so that us as the viewers can get a feel for just how horrible the whole ordeal actually was and the significance of the holocaust. The film is also set way back in the time of World War II where the films would have been produced in black and white. Black and white really was an effect that Spielberg used well in the film. Even though the film was predominantly black and white there were a couple of occasions where Spielberg used colour. We see an example of this in the movie when Oscar Schindler (the main character) rides his horse to the top of the hill with his mistress while the liquidation of the Krakow ghetto is taking place. There is a little girl brought to our attention by the fact that she has a red coat on, which obviously stands out from the black and white. Schindler stays and makes sure that the little girl is in a safe place and is away from danger, little did he know it wasnt exactly the safest hiding place as we see the girl dead later on in the film. From the example above Spielberg has connected another film technique to it later on in the film. Spielberg used a close up, up tilt on Schindler as he watches the little girl be taken away under a pile of dead bodies to be burnt, Schindlers face is gives us a true picture of the shock and horror. Also a when Goeth( the owner of a concentration camp) is looking around his camp there is an up tilt looking to Goeth, and when his workers are looki ...
